Viola a Chiavi

walnut-chiavi

Based on a number of illustrations, the viola a chiavi or keyed viol bears some resemblance to the later Mora harpa and nickelharpa.   It plays with a drone and has a limited range, however, can play almost any music from the era it was made.  This instrument body is made from a single thick and well aged piece of black walnut.  It has a fine spruce soundboard with a fixed soundpost for support, a cherry tailpiece, maple bridge, cherry keybox and maple keys, boxwood nut and gut strings.  It comes with a custom case and a medieval short bow.  Available for immediate shipping.
